About

I am an artist living on the south coast of England. I studied fine art painting over twenty years ago and I have continued to develop my interest in art and painting. I have since trained as an Art Therapist and I continue to work in that field.

My paintings often develop over time and have a loose figurative style, usually beginning with an idea or a feeling that captures some sense of 'otherworldly' or the uncanny.

These images then form the beginning of my paintings that can be  layered to form collected scenes, which together attempt to convey a sense of place and time. Sometimes the starting point disappears altogether allowing a more painterly interpreted view of the world to emerge.
I have been painting and dancing for the past 30 years, and those early years have made a lasting impression that I continue to draw upon.

I cut my teeth painting backdrops for clubs including Sundissenial, The Opera House and The Manor throughout a period in the 1990’s and this current work brings these elements together, with a focus on the dance floor and paraphernalia of the UK Acid House scene.

Drawing on and inspired by the DIY culture of the time I reimagine and reconstruct rave flyers with a painterly aesthetic maintaining a deep appreciation of the original designs while leaning into my classical fine art training.

The reimaginings contain all the key ingredients and attitude of those intoxicating and unifying times - with a dash of cross culture referencing.

The oil paintings draw directly from 1990's acid house scene with a focus on the people, to capture the drama and rapture of the dance floor.
